Painting is natural to me and I have always had a great love of art. I have painted since I was a little girl and developed a love of oils when I was about 11. I could see beauty everywhere around me in nature, particularly around Eden NSW where I used to holiday as a child.
I majored in art as part of my teaching degree and taught art in my early years as a teacher. When I was young I joined the Glenroy Art Group, taking part in some of their exhibitions. I also took a year off after illness in 2000 and was introduced to watercolour, on a weekly basis, with Paul McDonald Smith as the tutor. However, my workload as a teacher ramped up as the years went by and it is only recently, since retiring, that I have been able to return to the great passion of my life…painting.
I have tried to expand my skills this year, doing regular botanical art sessions and participating in recent workshops with Helen Cottle and Daniel Butterworth, both very inspiring and taking me out of my comfort zone!
People have described my work as hyper realistic. I’m not sure how I would describe my style, particularly some of my looser works, but I just love the paint, especially oils; - .. the vibrant colours .. the rich textures .. the freedom of getting lost in the painting process.
